A Night of Womxn, Art & Fashion with Dior and Vanity Fair
When Vanity Fair and Dior approach you to moderate a conversation about art and fashion with two heavyweights like Mickalene Thomas and Polly Apfelbaum, you say simply yes… There’s nothing to think about. Thomas and Apfelbaum are two of the eleven ALL FEMALE artists, commissioned by Dior to recreate the iconic Lady Dior bag for the third edition of the Dior Lady Art series. Dior’s first female Creative Director, Maria Grazia Chiuri, envisioned women artists of all ages and from all over the globe, to put their stamp on a bag so closely connected to the late Princess Diana. So many gems were dropped during our conversation, Thomas talked about young women “being present” during these socially-ominous times, and Apfelbaum talked about her mother’s style being a touchstone in her work, ( something each of us agreed with). The Dior Lady Art series in New York took place on January 10, at Dior’s 57th Street location, with a previous stop in Miami during Art Basel Miami Beach and subsequent stops in Los Angeles, Dallas, and other cities. 2019 is shaping up to be pretty fab so far.
