Celebrating Contemporary African Art at the AMREF Health Africa ArtBall
Now in its second year, the 2017 edition of the AMREF Health Africa ArtBall celebrated the best and the brightest of contemporary African art in New York. Held on May 6, 2017 at Milk Studios during Frieze Week, the iconic Ghanian artist El Anatsui was honored with the Rees Visionary Award and successful gallerist and honorary host, Jack Shainman, presided over the stylish fete. Eclectic and notable guests included Nina Chanel Abney. Alexander Smalls, Sherry Bronfman, David Johansen, Lori Zimmer, Logan Hicks, Amanda Uribe, Yewande Austin, Daria Brit-Greene, Franco Lacosta, Joakim von Ditmar, Alexandra Giniger, Patrice Farameh, co-chair Natalie Kates, among others. Curator Atim Annette Oton once again selected stunning works by contemporary African artists, which were part of a live auction that evening and a silent auction on Artsy. The night rocked on with a performance by Young Paris, sonic stimulations by DJ Alex Cruz & DJ Cuppy, and delicious bites by Chef Pierre Thiam. This fabulous and philanthropic event works for the greater good of pushing AMREF's mission in providing health services to more than thirty nations on the continent.
