The 2018 BADASS ART WOMAN AWARDS Continues to Push Femme Power in the Art World
At the second annual Badass Art Woman Awards held at Project for Empty Space , its founders Jasmine Wahi and Rebecca Jampol celebrated four female art icons in the art world. The BAWA honorees included Joeonna Bellorado-Samuels (Jack Shainman Gallery, We Buy Gold), Kemi Ilesanmi (The Laundromat Project), Gladys Barker Grauer (Artist/Activist), the late Peggy Cooper Cafritz (Art Collector, Philanthropist), who have demonstrated herculean efforts advocating for artists of color. Hosted by Tiana Webb Evans and Shari Loeffler, who kicked off the ceremony with genuine remarks on the importance of a space like PES in Newark, and the bold honorees themselves. As guests sipped on Bombay Sapphire cocktails and noshed on fresh salmon, performances by Destiny Autumn Tucker mesmerized the audience, as well as the fluid choreography of HiveWild. DJ Snap and her dope mixes rounded out the femme-centric evening affair. Guests were also able to bid on donated works by amazing artists like Zoe Buckman, Hiba Schahbaz, among others. We eagerly await the third edition to see what’s in store.
