Black Eye: A Multi-Tiered Exhibition Championing Black Self-Identity
The new group exhibit 'Black Eye' curated by Nicola Vassell, recently opened in Tribeca, New York City. Comprised solely of artists of color, it included the likes of Rashid Johnson, Xaviera Simmons, Deana Lawson, Sanford Biggers, Wangechi Mutu, Steve McQueen, and a host of others. The show tackled the very complex terrain of African and African-American 'self-identity' through a contemporary lens. Fueled by the current Obama era, various notions of blackness were interpreted and explored to reinforce multi-generational narratives. Black Eye is on view through May 24th at 57 Walker Street, New York City.
